Welcome to my site. My name is Dave, VE3AKK and I’ve been a licensed Canadian Amateur Radio Operator since the mid 1970’s.

I received my Basic license while working for the summer in Whitehorse, Yukon Territory. My intial call was VY1CZ. I operated for the summer from the home station of a local Ham and made many CW contacts. Seems the VY call was very popular! It also allowed me to stay in contact with my father over the summer. He was also a Ham Operator.

After returning to Ontario, I was issued the call VE3LFO which I’ve held ever since. After operating for a couple of years, I tokk and passed the Advanced License. After getting into the workforce and having a family, I was inactive for a number of years but have recently become active again.

After my father became a Silent Key, I took over his call of VE3AKK and now use this as my primary call.

Over the years, I have been primarily interested in QRP and almost exclusively using CW. When I started to become active again I had moved into a condo apartment, so antenna options were limited for fixed operations. I purchased a Yaesu FT-818 so I’d have one rig that covered all band and modes I’d likely be interested in. I’ve also built a number of QRP Labs radios and started using FT8 as it was the only mode where I could make QRP contacts from my apartment using an indoor loop antenna.

I’ve also done some portable operating with my QRP Labs QDX and QMX (both built from kits) and plan to add the FT-818 to the mix.

This site will follow my projects and activities aith QRP, kit and DIY project building plus 3D printing. I hope you’ll join me.

…Dave
